If you were along for the Right Royal Afternoon Tea at the Royal Horseguards Hotel on my last post, you know that I highly recommended going to experience the Coca-Cola London Eye.
Disclosure: I was given two complimentary tickets for the Coca-Cola London Eye. As always, all opinions are my own.
I also mentioned that the Royal Horseguards Hotel is almost directly across the Thames River from the London Eye, making it extremely convenient to visit. Just walk across the Jubilee Pedestrian Bridge and a few minutes later, you’re already there.
Which brings me to the first reason to visit the Coca-Cola London Eye~
If you’re going to London to sightsee, you’ll already be in this area with the Houses of Parliament, Elizabeth Tower (Big Ben), 10 Downing Street, The Royal Horseguards Hotel, and the London Aquarium in close proximity.
2. A check off of your bucket list.
CHECK! And if the London Eye isn’t on your bucket list, it needs to be added, promptly! Who wouldn’t have this on their list? Which brings me to number 3.
3. It’s not scary.
I could easily say that there are certain places I just wouldn’t go, and standing near the edges of cliffs, or up on tall buildings makes me feel a bit queasy at times, so I wasn’t really sure of what to expect with the Coca-Cola London Eye. It’s difficult to describe, but it feels so safe that I didn’t have any qualms at all once I saw the capsule. It also moves so slowly and smoothly, you can’t feel a thing, which is probably a big issue for certain people. Obviously, if you have severe acrophobia, this isn’t for you, but if you just think you might be a bit scared or nervous, I bet you won’t be at all! It’s a lovely experience, to be honest.
4. Photo opportunities.
This actually goes without saying: the shots you’ll be able to take are brilliant! When you’ve almost completed the rotation, you can stand in a marked spot and your photo will be taken which you can buy inside the London Eye building, if you choose to do so.
Other than from a helicopter, where else could you get a view of London like the photos above and below? The views alone should count as five reasons to experience the London Eye!
The sights are truly breathtaking! Although I was smitten with the clouds and sky (there was even a storm on the horizon) on the evening we visited, I couldn’t help but wonder how differently the city would look at different times of the day. Perhaps on a bright and sunny morning, or during a beautiful sunset, or after nightfall, with all the lights of London twinkling in the darkness.

Included with each ticket is a 4D Cinema experience that you can view before or after your ride. If you have younger children, don’t miss it; they might possibly be more enthralled with this short movie than riding in the London Eye. However, if you’re with older teens or on your own (just adults), don’t feel as though you really missed out if you didn’t get to it (e.g. I wouldn’t wait in a long queue to see it). It’s very cute, but really geared for a younger audience.
After about 40 minutes on the London Eye and making a complete rotation, we were back at the bottom. There had only been 7 of us in our capsule, including my daughter and me, which gave us lots of space to move about and see all the different views.
This was the grand finale for our trip and it was such a perfect ending. Denisa and I had our flight back to Los Angeles the next day, so although we would have loved to stay in the city longer, we were good girls and took the train back to my cousin’s house to pack. I did get one last beautiful silhouetted view of the London Eye as we made our way to the station.
Until next time, London; I’ll make sure it’s not too long before we return!
